Unique Grounding Staffs & Bear Bells
Spoil yourself
The perfect gift for someone who has everything.
Handcrafted one at a time in the Kootenay region of British Columbia — each staff a walking companion, a grounding tool, and a piece of art.
The Craft
Nothing here is turned on a machine. Every animal head is carved by hand, every line burned in by pyrography, every staff entirely its own.
What is Earthing / Grounding?
The Earth carries a gentle negative electrical charge. Direct contact — bare feet, or via a grounding staff — allows free electrons to flow into the body, neutralizing free radicals.
- Reduced inflammation and chronic pain
- Improved sleep and circadian rhythm regulation
- Lower cortisol levels — reduced stress response
- Stronger cardiovascular and immune function
- Increased energy — antioxidant effect at cellular level
Is Each Grounding Staff Unique?
Staffs are made from wood, leather and copper. The wood is recovered from orchards, firewood piles, beaches or rivers. Each piece is unique. Gianni grew up on the East Coast of Africa, where the earth breathes with spirit, and one can see the soul in every tree, every whisper of wind. To Gianni, these wooden pieces are not raw materials — they are messengers. They carry the hum of forgotten forests, the resilience of ecosystems that thrived long before humanity’s rush toward mass production. The act of transforming them into usable products releases the energy contained within. The hand process ensures that no two pieces are the same; the “dialogue is always different.”
How Does the Grounding Staff Connect Me to the Earth’s Current?
The staff tip has a 75mm long, 5mm diameter pure copper spike that enters the ground. This copper spike is connected to two copper wires that run up the length of the staff. These copper wires connect to a braided leather and copper harness. The braided leather copper harness is either wrapped around your wrist or held under your hand as you hold the staff. The copper spike enters the ground and connects you to the Earth’s current — ensuring you “Stay Connected · Be Grounded” and enjoy “Abundance & Health”.

The Cougar Grounding Staff
The cougar spirit represents stealth, strength, leadership, and independence — a guide for personal empowerment and intuitive decision-making. It symbolizes the power of silence and self-reliance, encouraging individuals to assert their authority with grace, trust their instincts, and navigate life’s challenges with agility and strategic patience. This cougar is sculpted from old growth cedar found on a beach. The design ensures durability.

The Wolf Grounding Staff
The wolf spirit represents instinct, intuition, and authentic wildness — a guide for personal transformation. It encourages individuals to trust their gut feelings, balance independence with community loyalty, and shed societal expectations to reconnect with their primal nature. In spiritual contexts the wolf is associated with guardianship, courage, and navigating life’s uncertainties through deep inner wisdom. Wolf heads are sculpted from hardwoods for durability and longevity.

The Bear Grounding Staff
The bear was believed to originate from the heavens and return there after death. In traditions like Finnish paganism, the bear spirit (Otso) was king of animals, and rituals were required to send its spirit back to the sky. In Native American and other Indigenous cultures, the bear spirit is a healer and teacher associated with hibernation — symbolizing cycles of death and rebirth, inner strength, and a connection to the underground spirit realm. Bear heads are sculpted from both softwoods and hardwoods.
Who Creates these Grounding Staffs?
Gianni lives in the Kootenays. He is self-taught and has a passion for sculpting in wood and other workable materials. He works exclusively with hand tools, preferring to hear the music of sharp knives, gouges and spokeshaves. His hands are merely interpreters, tracing the language of growth rings and weathered grain as he releases the spirit that lives within each piece of wood.

Current Projects
Watch a staff come to life — from raw wood to finished animal head.
I have been working on several projects. I find that project variety ensures that I maintain high energy levels. Equally as important, I like to explore new ideas and incorporate new techniques as I expand my craft.
The Wolf Portrait
I met a talented intarsionist, Ernie, with a collection of hardwoods saved from Creston orchard burn piles. Ernie fabricated a carving block for me. His wonderful piece has cherry in the center and walnut on the outsides. The perfect material for a wolf, strong and exotic. The wolf head is 50% larger than wolf heads mounted to current grounding staffs. The carving is roughed out and ready for finishing. I have spent six hours exploring the carving block to extract this majestic, mythical wolf.

The Spirit Family
On arriving in Creston, I was lucky to obtain a large slab of old growth larch. The larch was not perfect, it had checks and splits. As I explored and negotiated with the larch, peaceful nature spirits emerged. The young child, the one in the middle, is rushing ahead of its parents and they are encouraging their child to explore. This is a playful piece and would look wonderful hung on a wall where light and shadow will bring them to life. The piece needs finishing and final details added. This spirit family is sold.

Gallery Display Stand
We understand that your Gallery space is precious. Our prototype Kootenay-Younique gallery display stand will attract attention and charm visitors with its quixotic nature. The stand has a Kootenay mountain fabricated from birch and other woods as the base. The mountain is snow bound with a waterfall cascading into a lake. A thick staff extends upward and has several wood pegs inserted near the top to hold the grounding staffs. A quixotic figure rests at the top of the crag in a nest. The stand occupies ten square inches of floor space. The weight of the Kootenay mountain base ensures stability. The stand holds 2-3 staffs.

For Galleries
Kootenay Younique staffs are available through two galleries in the region. Each staff is priced at $140 — consistent across all locations.

Caring for Your Staff
A little care keeps your staff looking and performing its best for years on the trail.
Finish & Water Resistance
Each staff receives two coats of polyurethane. This makes it water resistant — but not waterproof. After wet hikes, wipe down with a dry cloth and allow to air dry fully before storing.
A light coat of cutting board wax or food-safe oil applied occasionally will protect the finish and keep the wood looking as new.
Living Wood
Wood is a living material that expands and contracts with changes in moisture and temperature. Vertical cracks can develop in the staff over time — this is a natural characteristic of the wood and will not impact the staff’s functionality or grounding performance.
Store indoors or under cover between trips, and keep out of prolonged direct sun to preserve the pyrography.
Quick Care Checklist
- Wipe down with a dry cloth after wet hikes — avoid soaking the wood
- Apply a light coat of cutting board wax or oil once a season
- Store indoors or under cover between uses
- Detach the bear bell for quiet walks; reattach with the loop for wildlife areas
- Vertical cracks are natural — they do not affect grounding performance
